Drystone Road Rally 9-10 July 2011 |

I think I must start with an apology to the competitors at the back of the entry list, not having the plot at MC1 clearly ruined the rally for you and I apologise for my error there. I would like to thank the rest of the organising team, without whose help the Drystone would never have run, thank you all. I would also thank all the marshals who came out and did a sterling job, again without you we would have no rally. As I am sure most people will know, this was my first attempt at COC and what an experience! From being fairly relaxed the Saturday before the rally, to manically worried on the Sunday, to being the most worried I have ever been on Friday night. Congratulations to Craig and Satish on the win, I personally feel it was fully deserved and, if nothing else we got the correct result. I feel this is only the first and the first MDMC winner at least since I have been involved with the club which is 14 years I think. Congrats should also go to Rich Oxley, second expert is a very good result. I hope everybody enjoyed the route, I am pleased to see the improvements to some of the whites have made them useable again.

We were a little thinner on the ground than last year, a problem to be honest I'd not foreseen but ill think of in future ! Photo courtesy of M & H Photography, The Drystone Official Photographer Need to keep this brief after my ‘Lecture’ at the Competitor’s Briefing last Saturday night! Firstly, and I think most importantly, we must thank the Marshals who made the event happen on the night. Some of you ‘Guys’ had travelled a considerable distance to help our Club … & you were even friendly & ‘on–the-ball’! Cheers & well done. We also had some people running about in rally cars, just shy of 60 I believe. Did you enjoy yourselves? We really hope that, in your own way (somehow or other!), you DID. We chose a tough & demanding route, threw in a few testing obstacles (!) along the way & undoubtedly kept both Driver & Navigator under (just enough!) pressure for a good 5 hours or so. As a brand new Clerk of the Course, it was always going to be one big learning curve. We had a new Chief Marshall & Timekeeper (very well done ‘guys’) for the first time as well, a new team running the Quarry … in fact, even some of the roads were new!! Between us, we had it all to do. Thankfully, there are some fantastic people in Mid-Derbyshire MC who kept us on the straight & narrow (couldn’t possibly name them all here) … so thanks to everybody, I really do we believe we ultimately achieved what we set out to do - to give you the most fun you can have on a Saturday night/Sunday morning in something with 4 wheels! We tried VERY hard to strike the right balance. With hindsight we know there are various things we would have loved to have done better (the odd 4x4 here & there just for starters!) & some things that we know you just couldn’t get enough of … THE QUARRY! Lastly. Thank you to Gavin & Tony for doing us proud with the Results, despite the delays in trying to resolve the queries at the finish. A BIG thank you to our Sponsors Adrenalin Jungle, G.B. Engineering and Geoff’s Plumbing & Heating. WELL DONE to Ian & Stewart for taking a superb win ahead of Carl & Iain and Martin & Cath. To all the award winners, all the finishers (& the unlucky few who didn’t!), the Marshals & EVERYONE else associated with the running of the event, THANK YOU FOR MAKING THE DRYSTONE A FANTASTIC RALLY.
